Week of Sept 27, 2022

The segment titled Grunge Street Style dives into Roni’s (@_roni_hall_) style, and how he draws inspiration from the 80, 90 fashion. The original post is run in French (Roni’s language of preference) but we’ve also included the English translated text.

Let us know in the comment if you can relate with any of Roni’s fashion inspo, and which of his looks you vibe with the most.

About Roni…

3 fun things about me:

  • I am obsessed with horror. Horror movies and series.

  • I love to cook.

  • I am never on time.

How Roni describes his first look.

“I would describe this look as a sportswear and chic look at the same time I find my inspiration on this outfit in the style of balenciaga that I like a lot.”

Roni describes his second look…

“I would describe this look as much more grunge but a "polished" grunge as I like to call it. I still find inspiration for this look from a little sport and an oversize style.”

How he puts his look together. Say what? You got that from the thrift store?

Fashion ions or fashion inspirations?

“I'll say both, I have a few fashion icons that influence my looks. Also, I spend a lot of time on Instagram; so I try to see the trends and adapt them to my style which is very 80s 90s grunge inspired.”

“ …I always try to bring in something cool with accessories or color composition or materials that I think matched together.”

Roni describes his third look.

“This is what I call a typical Roni look. It's really a look that corresponds completely to my aesthetic. I like to mix different styles, textures, references with my touch. I love this look!”

Why Roni never feels the urge to tones down his look.

“I don't really agree with this statement because for me there is no specific place to express my style. For me, fashion is first and foremost my means of expression and a part of my personality so even if I understand that Ottawa is not the best place for fashion I have never been into this idea of diminishing my looks because fashion is a part of me and wherever I go I take it with me.”

Describe look four:”This is another look that I would describe as very typical of the month with a lot of vintage and rock inspiration.”

Roni talks about his favourite and least favourite trends.

I love the trend of nail art and the 90's Lolita style that has been very visible for a while now. I find that this aesthetic has a pretty strong impact on an outfit that it brings in accessories like sunglasses and jewelry, maxi suite bodysuits, mini bags and mini skirts, boots, asymmetrical tops, fur touches and even the make up. I think it's really cool.

I'm not a fan of the tendency to dress very gothic with too many dark accents. I prefer more nuances. Not to be misunderstood as insinuating that this way of dressing is ugly; however, it is just not my style.
